The Best Award Winners Of 2016
To make it onto this list, a piece of work had to win Gold at a major award show this year. Our international jury of radio-loving ECDs then picked their top three entries to give us the following EarBlog rankings.
1. KFC – Man Meals

Ogilvy & Mather Johannesburg (Cannes Grand Prix, D&AD Yellow Pencil)
Simply put, this is radio done right. A simple premise, expertly crafted, witty and focused. KFC Man Meals aren’t just for every kind of man, it would seem they’re also for every kind of award show.
The Everyman Meal – Cherry Lip Balm
The Everyman Meal – Claw Thing
The Everyman Meal – Coloured Weights

2. Quikrete – Long Story Short

Fitzgerald + Co USA (Mercury Best in Show)
The best in show at 2016’s Radio Mercury Awards, Quikrete does more in 10 seconds than some other award winners manage to achieve in 90. Irreverent never felt more relevant.

Heimat Berlin (Grand LIA)

Sancho BBDO Colombia (Clio & One Show Gold)
A campaign that could only work on radio where a four hour Bogota bus commute takes passengers down a path to better education.

5. Movement du Nid

Girls of Paradise – McCANN Paris (Clio Gold Winner)
A hard hitting, thought provoking multi-media campaign that shocks with purpose. Brilliant to see digital and radio work so well together for such a powerful initiative.

6. Unilever – Blinking | Breathing

Ogilvy & Mather London (Cannes Gold)
A campaign that turned radio into an interactive science experiment. We particularly admire the pacing of the ads, calmly drip feeding information to leave the listener hooked.

8. Radio XXI – Go Mono

McCANN Workgroup Romania (LIA Gold Winner)

9. Wellington Zoo – Meet the Locals

Clemenger BBDO Wellington (AWARD AWARDS Gold)
Normally we’re not too fond of monologues that creep past a minute without a single mention of the product. But when they are hilariously morbid monologues involving death, bears and Margery the plump secretary, all is forgiven.

TBWA\Hunt Lascaris Johannesburg (One Show Gold)
You’re only young once, and if you believe everything you hear in this campaign for Flight Centre, you had better make the most of it.
